Rollei tripod series "Version 2026": C6i C5i & Compact Traveler No. 1

Good tripods can be really expensive? A good tripod has to combine several aspects that are actually contradictory: light and compact, but at the same time stable and versatile. And that's where it quickly gets expensive. The good news is that good tripods don't have to be extremely expensive. And that brings us to Rollei. With the "Version 2026" Rollei is reissuing its most popular models: The C6i, C5i and Compact Traveler No. 1.

Rollei thus delivers a well-rounded, solid tripod portfolio that you can afford without it looking "cheap". The three tripods cover everything from an always-on travel tripod to a more stable option for heavier setups. So the key question is: What can the tripods do and which one suits you?

Rollei C5i
Unboxing & first impression

You notice the high quality standard as soon as you unpack them. All three tripods come in compact but robust bags and all components immediately feel solid:

  • Bag: practical for transportation and storage
  • Twist locks: easy to grip, high quality, firm.
  • Ball head: runs smoothly and controlled, very fine adjustment
  • Center column & legs: everything fits neatly, nothing rattles, nothing feels "loose"

And important: all three models are available in aluminum or carbon, but more on that in a moment.

What all three tripods can do

The three Rollei tripods differ mainly in size and load capacity. Functionally, they are very close to each other. You get a very similar feature set across the entire range.

Here are the most important common points:

  • Twist locks for quick set-up:
Anyone who has ever struggled with annoying clamps knows: twist locks are simply more convenient.

  • Aluminum or carbon: same base, different material:
depending on whether you want to save weight or get in as cheaply as possible.

  • Removable and even divisible center column:
This is worth its weight in gold for many: flexible in height, and with a divisible column often more practical for certain setups.

  • Detachable leg for monopod function:
One leg can be detached and used as a monopod and, depending on your requirements, can even be combined with the center column if you need more reach

  • Rubber feet and spikes:
Fast and safe indoors with rubber feet, more grip outdoors with spikes. Particularly important on forest floors, gravel or damp ground.

Bonus that helps surprisingly often in everyday Creator life:

  • Hidden smartphone holder:
The smartphone holder hidden in the center column is perfect for BTS, reels or a stable cell phone video.
  • 360° ball head (Arca-Swiss compatible)
Quick alignment, uncomplicated change and, depending on the head, with spirit level(s) for clean alignment.
  • Better workmanship
Across all components and available spare parts, which is underestimated for tripods in the long term.

The actual idea behind it: Rollei packs a well-rounded, photo-ready feature set into a price window that remains realistic for beginners, amateur photographers and budget setups.

Stability in practice: "Inexpensive" does not mean "wobbly" here

And this is exactly where the tripods score in their respective size class: nothing tips, the head holds, the legs stand. The carbon version in particular is stable and delivers what it promises.

For typical applications such as landscapes, portraits, product shots and content, this is exactly the stability you expect. And yes: long exposures on windy days are absolutely possible with the right model and a clean set-up.

The three models: Which tripod is right for you?

And now to the crucial question: Which of the three tripods is right for you? The differences are simple and that's why you can really decide according to the use case.

Rollei Compact Traveler No.1 Version 2026 black Carbon
  • Load capacity: max. 8 kg
  • Max. Working height: 113 cm (incl. head)
  • Weight (incl. head): 961 g

The Compact Traveler is for anyone who really always wants to take a tripod with them for their compact camera or smartphone. It is ultra-compact, disappears quickly in your backpack or carry-on and is perfect for traveling & city trips, light setups and content on the go (also super handy with smartphone holder).

In short, if you're often on the move and looking for a tripod that won't get on your nerves, the Rollei Compact Traveler No. 1 is the one for you.

Rollei C5i Version 2026 black Carbon
  • Load capacity: max. 8 kg
  • Max. Working height: 131.5 cm (incl. head)
  • Weight (incl. head): 1.28 g

The C5i is the sweet spot for many: stable enough for APS-C cameras and smaller full-frame setups, yet still comfortably portable.

It is ideal for:

  • Hobby photographers who are getting serious
  • Portrait, landscape, product
  • Hybrid (photo & video)

Rollei Tripod C6i Version 2026 black Carbon
  • Load capacity: 12 kg
  • Max. Working height: 141 cm (incl. head)
  • Weight (incl. head): 1.57 kg

The C6i is the largest, but also the most stable of the three tripods. More load capacity not only means "suitable for heavier cameras", but also

  • more stability for long exposures
  • larger Lenses
  • Video recordings
  • windier conditions
  • Setups where you simply want to have "more reserve"

If you often work with larger glass or are generally looking for maximum stability in this series: Rollei C6i.

Rollei C5i
Carbon vs. aluminum: Which version should you choose?

Here you can make life easy for yourself: it mainly depends on the desired weight and the price.

Aluminum as the price/performance champion

  • cheaper
  • significantly heavier (but can also help in windy conditions)
  • robust, uncomplicated

Carbon for those who really want to carry

  • more expensive than aluminum, but
  • lighter, more comfortable on trips and long days
  • More stable
  • less susceptible to corrosion than aluminum
  • often more comfortable in winter (and the tripods also have grip pads/cold protection)

A good rule of thumb: aluminum if you want to save money, carbon if you want to carry less.

Conclusion: Inexpensive but not cheap

If you're looking for a tripod that offers lots of features, clean workmanship and solid stability without the price escalating, then the Rollei C6i, C5i and Compact Traveler No. 1 (version 2026) are really exciting options.

The Compact Traveler No. 1 is best suited for the smallest of heights and is ultra-compact so you can always take it with you when traveling. The Rollei C5i is the ultimate all-rounder, a good compromise between size, stability & handling and therefore super suitable for APS-C or smaller full-frame cameras. The Rollei C6i not only offers the highest carrying capacity, but also more stability and therefore more safety when working with larger cameras and Lenses.
