Canon EOS 6D Mark II

New processor

The most important improvement to the 6D Mark II is probably the new full-frame sensor with 26.2 megapixel resolution. Canon has installed the DIGIC 7 processor in order to process the captured images in the best possible way. Not only does the new sensor achieve more image detail, but a higher dynamic range and optimized noise behaviour also contribute to better image quality

Autofocus system

A major criticism of the old EOS 6D was always the autofocus with only 11 autofocus points. Canon no longer leaves anything to be desired here, as the new EOS 6D Mark II has 45 autofocus points (all cross-type sensors). Compared to line sensors, cross sensors are more likely to focus the image correctly. Focusing therefore works equally well with all measuring points. In our test, we also experienced rapid focusing of the image with constant objects. Known from the 70D and 80D, the Video Dual Pixel AF should be of particular interest to filmmakers. It tracks the focus evenly without suddenly jumping to other objects.

Rotatable and tiltable touch display

The Canon EOS 6D Mark II is the first full-format SLR camera from Canon to feature a rotating and tilting touch display. This allows you to take photos and videos from very special angles. For example, you can take photos from low angles without having to lie down on the floor. Even if many professionals categorically reject a swivel display, it can be very practical in many cases! You can adjust the camera settings very intuitively using the touchscreen. In our practical test, we found that the touchscreen can be very helpful, especially for newcomers to the Canon system. Canon has solved the problem of locking the screen very well. As the screen is not switched off when shooting through the viewfinder, this function prevents you from making unintentional inputs (e.g. with your nose) while shooting. To operate the touchscreen, you must first press the "Quick button" to unlock the screen.

Video functions

The new EOS 6D is only partially suitable for filming. On the one hand, the Dual Pixel AF in conjunction with the tilting touchscreen is very practical. A focus point can be set on the screen at lightning speed. We were very surprised by the tracking function (e.g. face tracking)! The focus point tracked the object even over a long distance - even during fast movements. When recording in Full HD, up to 60 images can be recorded. This allows you to create exciting slow motion shots in post-production. Camera shake in the video is also minimized. The camera still has a microphone input. On the other hand, Canon has unfortunately not integrated a headphone output. This means you cannot control the video sound. Many users had also expected a 4K video function, which is unfortunately not on board the 6D Mark II.

We think the new entry-level full-frame EOS 6D Mark II is perfect for ambitious amateur photographers and filmmakers who want to add that little bit of icing on the cake to their pictures. With the revised sensor and autofocus, you can achieve even sharper photos. With the swivel touch display, the new full-frame DSLR will particularly appeal to those who have previously photographed with a Canon APS-C camera - such as the 70D. Of course, there are a few functions missing compared to higher models, but these are only of interest to professionals. Overall, the new EOS 6D Mark II is an affordable alternative to the 5D Mark IV The Canon EOS 6D Mark II is now also available and we at Foto Koch are among the first to be able to inspire you with this new camera You can order the EOS 6D Mark II via our online store or take it into your own hands in our branch in D?sseldorf and see the new possibilities for yourself.
