LUMIX S1 - High resolution, high sensitivity The LUMIX S1 full-frame mirrorless camera uses a 23.8x35.6mm 24.2 million pixel CMOS sensor with wide dynamic range and excellent signal-to-noise ratio even at high ISO settings. Efficient pixel design, combined with the powerful Venus Engine processor, enables standard ISO settings up to ISO 51,200.

LUMIX S1R - Highest resolution without low-pass filter
The already high level of detail of the high-resolution 47.3 megapixel CMOS full-frame sensor is further enhanced by the absence of a low-pass filter. This means that even the finest subject structures are captured in the image with great detail.
New aspherical microlenses in front of each pixel improve light capture by the sensor. The result is particularly low noise even at high ISO values. With its working range of up to ISO 25,600, the LUMIX S1R is also suitable for use in low light conditions.

High Resolution (HR) mode - when a little more is needed...
If even more detail is required, the High Resolution (HR) mode of both models can help. It combines information from eight images taken with minimally offset sensor positions
. The result with the LUMIX S1 is 96 megapixel photos with a resolution of 12,000 x 8,000 pixels. With the S1R, there are even 187 million pixels with a resolution of 16,736 x 11,168 pixels, which are saved as RAW files. The system can suppress motion blur in the subject.

Double image stabilization
The 5-axis Body I.S. (Sensor Shift) system compensates for the effects of camera shake, allowing up to 5.5 stops*1 longer freehand shots. In combination with the 2-axis O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) in the Lens of the LUMIX S series, this Dual I.S. system increases the degree of compensation to 6 stops*2, compensating for various camera movements in both photo and video recording*3. Using the latest technology, it utilizes not only information from a gyro sensor but also from a CMOS sensor and an accelerometer to measure vibration. To help photographers eliminate the sources of possible camera shake, the LUMIX S cameras also offer an I.S. status display with a graphical interpretation of the vibrations.

*1 Based on CIPA standard [Yaw/tilt direction: focusing distance f=50mm with S-X50.
*2 Based on CIPA standard [Yaw/tilt direction: focusing distance f=200mm with S-R70200.].
*3 5-axis Dual I.S. can be used with S-R24105 and S-R70200 Lens (as of February 1, 2019).

High-speed focusing
The combination of contrast detection and Panasonic's unique DFD technology with ultra-fast processing creates a focusing system that is both fast and precise. To achieve such extremely powerful focusing, the Venus Engine image processor, CMOS sensor and new LUMIX S Lens communicate at up to 480 fps, allowing the system to respond in 0.08 seconds*1. Autofocus works in light as low as a remarkable -6 EV*2.

Focusing and focus tracking are enhanced by artificial intelligence technology. It can distinguish people, cats, dogs and birds. Identifying the subject helps the system to anticipate movement patterns. This allows the autofocus to continue tracking the subject even when it turns away from the camera. In portraits, face, eye and pupil recognition support correct focusing.

The LUMIX S1 and S1R can shoot moving subjects at a speed of 9 fps in AFS mode or 6 fps with continuous focus. The 6K photo mode enables fast bursts of 18-megapixel JPEG images at 30 fps, while the 4K photo mode offers 8-megapixel bursts at 30 or 60 fps.*3

*1 11EV, at wide angle with S-R24105 (CIPA) with 120 fps EVF setting.
*2 F1.4, ISO100 equivalent, AFS.
*3 4K/6K PHOTO modes produce an MP4 file consisting of 4:3 or 3:2 aspect ratio still images with approx. 6K/18 megapixel or approx. 4K/8 megapixel resolution.

Real-time viewfinder and monitor
With 5.76 million pixels, the OLED viewfinder of the S1 cameras offers the highest resolution electronic viewfinder currently available*1 and an image of exceptional clarity. The real-time viewfinder works with a frame refresh rate of up to 120 fps and a
virtually non-existent delay of just 0.005s. This means that even images with movement and panning are reproduced with clean definition. The high resolution in combination with a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 ensures equally differentiated and detailed reproduction.

The 8.1 cm touchscreen LCD monitor has a resolution of 2.1 million pixels and can be moved in three axes. This makes it easier to take pictures with the camera raised or lowered in both portrait and landscape format. Night mode, LiveView boost and illuminated buttons help when taking photos in the dark. Thanks to a large backlit Info-LC display on the top of the camera, the photographer can check important shooting settings at a glance.

L-MountAlliance:
Strategic cooperation between Leica Camera, Panasonic and Sigma

System cameras allow extremely flexible use due to their numerous interchangeable components and can be individually configured according to requirements. The bayonet is the most important interface, as the Lens plays a decisive role in the imaging performance and thus in the final image quality. Thanks to the strategic partnership between Leica, Panasonic and Sigma, customers will be able to choose from a wider selection of cameras and lenses in the future, without having to commit themselves to individual manufacturers because they use proprietary bayonets, as has been the case up to now.

Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board and majority shareholder, Leica Camera AG: "A wide selection for their chosen camera system is extremely important to photographers. Especially in the ever-growing market for mirrorless system cameras, there is an ever-increasing variety of different user requirements. In order to be able to meet these requirements at short notice, we have decided to work together with renowned partners from the photographic industry. We have worked with Panasonic for many years in a spirit of partnership and trust, and their expertise in electronics is undisputed. Sigma is also a respected company that has established itself particularly in the field of optical development and with its innovative products can offer a perfect addition to our existing L-mount portfolio. We are convinced that together with our partners we can realize mutual and sustainable growth for all our products."

Mr. Tetsuro Homma, Senior Managing Executive Officer, Panasonic Corporation: "Panasonic's focus has always been on revolutionizing the camera market and making photographers' lives easier, more advanced and more enjoyable. Our long-standing partnership with Leica has produced numerous high-performance, high-quality digital cameras by combining Leica's leading optical technology with Panasonic's digital technologies. This partnership has enabled us to drive the development of excellent products for digital photography. The L-mount alliance with Leica and Sigma is a prime example of the traction of our collaboration. This alliance of strong companies will fundamentally change the future of the photographic industry. As a market challenger, we have always driven innovation with the slogan 'Changing Photography' to meet the high expectations of professional photographers. Our partnership with Leica and Sigma will bring additional business opportunities to our companies, but most importantly, it will continue to bring great joy to our customers' photography."

Mr. Kazuto Yamaki, Chief Executive Officer, SIGMA Corporation: "With the evolution of cameras to digital and mirrorless, the demands of users and systems have also changed. Currently, there is an almost overwhelming choice of different systems, but they do not yet meet all the needs of users, especially in the areas of expandability and flexibility. SIGMA joins this alliance to develop mirrorless cameras that benefit from the short flange focal length. As SIGMA strives to develop high quality and innovative high performance products, this alliance will greatly advance both the realization and expandability of our camera system and thus also significantly increase the benefits for our customers. Leica is a great company and has made a significant impact on photography for more than 100 years, and Panasonic is a market leader in many different areas due to its proven developments. Together with SIGMA's high quality, high performance and unique products, the L-Mount will become an extremely attractive system for potential users."

About the L-Mount:
The L-Mount was developed by Leica Camera with the aim of providing customers with a future-proof, flexible, robust and precise bayonet that meets all photographic requirements, no matter how demanding. After its original introduction in 2014 in the Leica T, the L-Mount has been continuously developed by Leica Camera and its partners, resulting in an improved and virtually new L-Mount technology.

To ensure the widest possible range of usable products, the diameter of the L-Mount, at 51.6 millimetres, has been dimensioned so that it is suitable not only for cameras with a full-frame format, but also with an APS-C sensor. The small flange focal distance of just 20 millimetres enables a small distance between the optics and the sensor, which means that Lens can be designed to be much more compact - this is particularly helpful for developments in the wide-angle range. In order to withstand even the heaviest loads and guarantee customers maximum safety during many years of intensive use, camera bayonets are made of wear-resistant stainless steel and have four flange segments, which prevents tilting and ensures a particularly firm and flat fit of the lens. The standardized L-mount contact strip ensures smooth communication between the electronic components in the lens and camera - including the possibility of firmware updates for lenses in order to react to technical developments and thus ensure full performance in the future.

The Leica SL system in full-frame format and the APS system with the Leica CL, TL2 and TL camera models currently use the lens mount. All lenses of the various systems can be used on all cameras without restrictions and without adapters - this is already one of the many advantages that customers have thanks to the standardized bayonet. In the near future, Leica Camera AG as well as Panasonic and Sigma will announce further products that use the uniform standard.

S1 - Professional video features
The LUMIX S1 offers filmmakers exceptional video quality and a wide range of tools for full creative control over their footage. 4K video is possible at up to 60p. Full pixel readout up to 30p delivers particularly clean and detailed images. By using the full sensor area, the angle of view of the Lens is not restricted. In addition, the large sensor surface expands the design options by varying the depth of field.

The camera offers a variety of gamma curves, including industry standards such as Cinelike D/V and Like709. To reduce post-processing time, a new flat mode with less contrast and saturation is offered for versatile use. The new Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG)*1 profile enables shooting in an even wider dynamic range with rich colors (Like2100) to mimic the capabilities of the human eye.

The LUMIX S1 enables video recording up to 4K 60p 4:2:0 in 8-bit directly to SD or XQD card. 4:2:2 color sampling in 8-bit can be output via HDMI. Panasonic will offer an optional software key in 2019 to unlock the option to record up to 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit via HDMI output and 30p/25p/24p in 4:2:2 10-bit internally. This upgrade also helps the LUMIX S1 to achieve a top dynamic range value using V Log. While recording time limits apply to 4K/60p and high-speed video, 4K/30p and Full HD can be recorded without time limits.*2 High-speed video allows 2x slow motion at 60fps in 4K and up to 6x slow motion in Full HD at frame rates of up to 180fps.

There is a 3.5 mm microphone socket for the line sound input and a 3.5 mm headphone socket for sound monitoring during recording.

*1 "HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma)" is an international standard (ITU-R BT.2100) HDR format.
*2 4K/60p: 29 minutes and 59 seconds, high-speed videos up to 15 minutes (all high-speed modes). Recording stops when the memory card is full or the battery is empty. If the temperature gets too high, the camera can stop recording to protect itself. Wait until the camera has cooled down.

S1R - First-class video
Even though the LUMIX S1R was primarily developed for demanding photographic tasks, it is capable of creating ambitious video recordings in 4K resolution with up to 60p*1. High-speed video enables 2x slow motion at 60 fps in 4K and up to 6x slow motion in Full HD with frame rates of up to 180 fps. The signal can be recorded in the camera on SD or XQD*2 or externally via the HDMI type port. A 3.5 mm microphone socket serves as a line sound input, while the sound recording can be monitored via the 3.5 mm headphone connection.

*1 Maximum 15 minutes in 4K60p, unlimited recording time in Full HD. If the temperature is too high, the camera can stop recording to protect itself. Wait until the camera has cooled down.

Professional features
The LUMIX S-Class has been designed for professional photographers and is suitable for use in harsh conditions thanks to die-cast magnesium front and rear panels and seals on every port, dial and button. The cameras are dust- and splash-proof and operate in temperatures as low as -10°C*1.

The shutter unit is designed for 400,000 operations. It allows mechanically controlled exposure times of up to 1/8000s to enable the capture of fast-moving objects even with an open aperture and fast Lens in bright sunshine. The external flash can be synchronized with the industry's fastest mechanical shutter speed of 1/320s*2.

The control buttons and dials are ergonomically positioned to allow the user to concentrate on shooting. The use of an 8-direction joystick and an improved user interface support fast operation even during shooting. A locking lever prevents unintentional operation, allowing the user to choose which functions to lock.

Photographers can protect their rights to their work by having the camera automatically add their personal details and copyright information to the Exif data when saving images. Dual memory card slots allow the use of SD (UHS-II) and XQD*3 media. The new CFexpress cards will also be usable in the near future.

The camera can be conveniently charged via USB to extend the recording capacity on the move. The supplied charger enables the camera batteries to be recharged quickly in approx. 2 hours. The camera can be used while charging via this adapter.

*1 Dust and splash proof does not guarantee that no damage will occur if this camera is exposed to direct contact with dust and water.

Creative imaging made easy
New photo styles include HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma)*1 photo modes for vivid images with high dynamic range. It preserves the detail in the highlights, making them suitable for picture playback on the latest HLG-compliant 4K TVs from Panasonic via HDMI cable connection or other HLG-compliant devices. Images captured in HLG modes can be saved as HSP files in 8K resolution as well as JPEG and RAW formats.

For an individual look, the camera's internal setting options offer the photographer great flexibility when capturing JPEGs. Each photo style can be customized, new styles can be created and saved. A "Flat" option creates JPEGs with flat contrast and reduced saturation as flexible source material for post-processing.

When shooting portraits, the new AWBw white balance produces an attractive, slightly warm tone, and a new highlight-emphasized metering mode promotes the retention of detail in the brightest areas of the image. New panorama aspect ratios expand the design possibilities: 65:24 film panorama and 2:1 widescreen formats offer additional dimensions right from the shooting stage.

*1 "HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma)" is an international standard (ITU-R BT.2100) HDR format.

Connectivity and remote control
The LUMIX S cameras are compatible with the LUMIX Tether software, which allows remote control of the camera via USB from a PC as well as live streaming and direct transfer of images to a PC during shooting.

LUMIX Sync is a new smartphone app for iOS/Android* devices that enables remote control of the camera and photo transfer from the camera to the smartphone/tablet.

Bluetooth 4.2 compatibility also allows constant connection to a smartphone or tablet with minimal power consumption and enables camera settings to be shared between multiple LUMIX S1 bodies. Wi-Fi 5GHz (IEEE802.11ac) alongside 2.4GHz (IEEE802.11b/g/n) provides a secure and faster connection to smartphones/tablets for remote control and image/video transfer.

No compromises were made for outstanding imaging performance, perfect bokeh and incredible image depth. The resulting top performance and outstanding quality meet all the stringent evaluation criteria required of a Leica Lens.

Lightning-Fast Response
Designed for professional outdoor photography use, this long focal length telephoto zoom lens offers F2.8 aperture across the entire zoom range. A dual focus system minimizes optical aberrations and ensures an optimal image at any distance, even up close. 5-axis Dual I.S.1 provides 7 levels of stabilization2 and allows shooting that would otherwise be impossible without a tripod.

Compatible with teleconverters (sold separately)
The LUMIX S PRO 70-200mm F2.8 O.I.S. boasts a wide focal range, from medium focal length to strong telephoto. This flexibility makes it an excellent choice for many subjects and applications, including sports, wildlife, and even portrait photography. Teleconverters (sold separately) can extend the range even further, up to 280mm (DMW-STC14, 1.4x) or 400mm (DMW-STC20, 2x).

Optimal handling for more creativity
Excellent handling and rugged construction make the LUMIX S PRO 70-200mm F2.8 O.I.S. the ideal choice for demanding shooting conditions - regardless of weather or environment. The dust-, splash-, and freeze-resistant body protects the lens system from sand and rain, and allows you to shoot even in low temperatures down to -10°C. For fast, intuitive control, the Lens features three focus buttons and a focus clutch mechanism that enables instant AF/MF switching - so you'll never miss a subject. On top of that, the tripod adapter is equipped with the popular Arca-Swiss system.

O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) for razor-sharp images
Capture the most beautiful motifs spontaneously. Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.), a technology built directly into the Lens, ensures stunning photos with sharp contours in all areas of the frame.
