The Marumi filter DHG ND2-ND400 is a variable gray filter with a thin screw thread and aluminum frame. Gray filters are available in different strengths, for example ND2, ND4, ND8 etc. The variable ND filters from Marumi consist of two filters that can be rotated on top of each other to control the degree of light attenuation. A single variable ND filter can therefore replace a series of fixed ND filters and is therefore more practical to use. By turning the ring, the light is reduced from ND2 to ND400 (1 to 8 stops).

On clear days with plenty of sunlight, the gray filter attenuates the light to such an extent that the shutter speed can be slowed down to capture movements such as the flow of water. On clear days with lots of sunlight, use a very large aperture to reduce the depth of field of an image or, on clear days with lots of sunlight, use an aperture further away from the diffraction limit, resulting in a sharper image.
